Smart, Chic & Made in the USA – Amanda Uprichard Floral Island Print Silk Tunic

Today’s post is about shopping local – and an Instagram success story!

Have you ever fallen in love with a brand, yet it’s taken a while to find the right item for you?

I’ve admired Amanda Uprichard’s Made in the USA silk dresses and tops for many years, but it wasn’t until this spring that I finally bought one of her tops in this beautiful floral “Island Print.”

The funny thing is that I found the top on Instagram – yet it was being sold at an Atlanta boutique that’s located less than a mile from my home: Sorelle Boutique in Morningside (across the street from Alon’s).

I visited Sorelle in person – and bought the top – within 24 hours of seeing this pretty post on Instagram:

In addition to Sorelle, I found the top online at Monkee’s ($195). The print also comes in this beautiful faux wrap dress ($228).

Fashion Flashback – Pinstripe Jeans Reimagined by Ann Taylor

The Commandress feature ‘Fashion Flashback’ by Amy (Bergsma) Schwarzenbach features the author’s 1980s fashion retrospectives as a new way to understand – and inspire – contemporary fashion styles.

This past weekend during a break from a wrestling tournament – yes, a wrestling tournament – a friend and I went shopping. As we wandered into Ann Taylor, my jaw dropped when I spied with my disbelieving eyes a pinstripe jeans revival!

Do you remember this classic 1980s style?

1980s vintage high waisted pinstripe jeansWhile Ann Taylor’s pinstripes are certainly a nod to this 1980s fad, the updated styles look fresh and fun.

Ann Taylor’s Modern Railroad Stripe Super Skinny Jeans in Placid Blue ($69.50 on sale; regularly $98; available in regular, tall & petite sizes) reeled me in. The pinstripe is narrow and subtle enough to remind me that the pinstripe jeans I owned in the 1980s looked stiff and awkward by comparison.

The wider stripes make the pinstriping more noticeable and lively.

While I like both styles of pinstripe jeans very much, I must confess that after my initial scan of the jeans on display my attention turned to these Ann Taylor Curvy Floral Skinny Ankle Jeans in Dark Sky ($98 in regular & petite sizes). The symmetrical abstract flowers scattered across the print are playful in a refined way – just the way I like it.

Professional, Smart & Chic – Under $100 – Sole Society France Lapis Print Midheel Pumps

A work-appropriate look you can get excited about.

I was very pleased to see my sister-in-law Rena looking extra chic in her Sole Society Anneke Pumps yesterday! (I’ve featured this $69 studded midheel allstar here, here and here.)

Sole Society continues to be one of my favorite places to look for fantastic – and surprisingly affordable – midheel pumps.

Right now, I can’t stop admiring this Sole Society France Pump ($69.95) in a gorgeous textured fabric.

What a lovely way to add color and interest to any outfit. The pump’s classic shape, pointy toe, and rich colors make the design look polished enough for the office.

I also love how Sole Society has styled the pump with jeans and a printed silk jacket (which is still available in a few sizes from The Outnet) in this picture.

Sole Society France Pump - business casual outfit idea

These jeans are too casual for most workplaces, but you could swap them out for dark wash straight leg jeans or tailored pants for a more professional look.

The Sole Society France Pump is available in the Lapis print shown here, a Navy and White abstract animal print, or Caramel calf hair for $69.95.

As for sizing, the similarly-shaped Anneke Pump is actually a good fit for narrow and wide feet. Order down a size if your foot is narrow or up a size if your foot is wide.
