The Commandress feature “Mad Men Monday” spotlights fashion that channels the 1960s style of the show’s leading ladies.
As is often the case, Joan wore the most striking dress on last night’s episode of Mad Men.
This chic dress features Joan’s new “executive” color palette (red paired with combinations of black, brown and white) on one of the structured floral dresses that she wears so well. (Image courtesy of Hypable)
Last week’s Mad Men Style post featured five Joan-inspired solid red dresses, so this week I’m featuring a red dress in an abstract floral print. The tailored and professional silhouette of this T Tahari Malone Print Sheath Dress ($138 from Nordstrom) make the print look anything but girly.
We saw Peggy in several dresses last night, but my favorite was a forest green A-line dress that looked strikingly like this dress from Of Mercer. (I’ll update the post with a picture of Peggy’s green dress if I can find one!)
If you aren’t yet familiar with Of Mercer, it’s a fantastic source for beautifully tailored professional dresses (and other professional clothing) – all of which are made from high-quality fabrics and sold directly from the brand for under $250. This very chic Of Mercer Thompson Dress ($185 in Spruce; also available in Cobalt or Black & White Tweed) in Italian virgin wool would probably retail for at least $400.
Today’s third dress features an abstract green, blue, white and black print in a feminine and flattering silhouette. The NIC+ZOE Transparent Windowpane Print Jersey Dress ($154 from Nordstrom in Regular & Petite) is made from washable stretch jersey fabric for easy wear and easy care.
The NIC+ZOE Transparent Windowpane Print Jersey Dress also looks chic and flattering in Plus Size ($164 from Nordstrom).
