Here’s a list of the questions we get most often. We hope you find what your looking for!

Why did you name your blog Commandress?
“Commandress” is our shorthand for taking charge of your wardrobe.
If you find it in the dictionary (yes, it’s in some of them!), “Commandress” means a woman with authority to command – or a female commander. It’s a strong-sounding word with a whimsical note – because it also happens to include our favorite thing to wear: a dress.
Abigail and Amy look so much alike. Are you related?
Yes, we’re sisters!
Why did you start a blog?
Commandress is something good that came after something terribly bad.
Abigail left her career as a lawyer and started Commandress in the year following the sudden and unexpected death of her late husband, Alfred Politzer. Their daughter, Bonnie, was two years old at that time. The blog provided an outlet – and a much-needed happy place – for Abigail to talk about something she’s always loved: fashion.
When did you start writing this blog?
The first Commandress post was published on May 1, 2012.
When did Amy join the blog?
At Abigail’s invitation, Amy joined the blog in late 2013. She grew up loving fashion almost as much as Abigail.
Having spent over ten years working in the legal industry, first as a recruiter and then as a career counselor, Amy helped many a law student make a good first impression through their choice of clothes. A little known fact about Amy is her first job was as a salesgirl in a dress store called Soiree.
Commandress used to be a blog about professional fashion. Why did you change?
When Commandress was founded in 2012, it focused on professional fashion. After practicing as a lawyer for 8 years, professional fashion was the world Abigail knew best. Given Amy’s background in the legal industry, professional fashion was still the perfect topic for us when she joined the blog.
In 2015, we shifted our focus from professional fashion to everyday style because neither of us regularly works in an office anymore. We both work from home and don’t wear – or buy – work clothes nearly as much as we used to.
More specifically, one day we were talking by phone and discovered that Abigail was ready for the day in a striking new yoga outfit while Amy was “dressed up” for her book club in jeans.
Our lives had changed and our wardrobes had changed. It was time for the blog to catch up!
How often do you post?
Generally, once a day Monday through Friday. We’ve divided our recommendations into five categories.
- Love your everyday style (Monday) – stylish and versatile clothes that you’ll love to wear as often as possible
- Love your work style (Tuesday) – a work-appropriate look you can get excited about – either for going to the office or just looking like you’re in charge of one
- Love your workout style (Wednesday) – stylish activewear for working out – or just hanging out (we won’t tell!)
- Love your dressed up style (Thursday) – the fun and fancy stuff for going out and looking fabulous
- Love your travel style (Friday) – easy to wear clothing and accessories for exploring new places and doing new things

How old are your readers?
Most of our readers are women aged 35-50.
We don’t really write with a specific age group in mind, but we definitely think of our readers as “grown ups.”
Do you make money from Commandress?
Yes, primarily through affiliate links. You can ready more about this on our Policy Page.
Do you post pictures of yourself?
We think of Commandress as a curatorial blog rather than a personal style blog. This means we find and feature only the very best clothes and accessories on the blog and on our shopping pages – typically with the pictures that are available from retailers.
In the spirit of practicing what we preach, we sometimes share pictures of ourselves wearing the clothes we love.
Why are comments on older posts closed?
We get too much spam on really old posts to keep up with moderating, so we chose to close comments on blog posts older than 45 days. If you have a question that’s not answered, you can still email us: info[at]commandress.com
Who designed your blog?
Whitney Blake of Heart and Arrow Design is our graphic and web designer.
