Commandress Color Week features work-appropriate clothes and accessories in Fall 2012′s most gorgeous colors, including dark purple, dark green, peacock blue and burgundy.
I love all shades of purple: lilac, lavender, violet, dark plum, and everything in between. This fall is a bonanza for fans of dark purple – including violet and dark plum.
Once upon a time, sumptuary laws limited the wearing of purple to royalty. We all can (and should!) wear purple now, but it remains a symbol of luxury.

Dark purple is a wonderful alternative to black, brown, and navy because it is rich, beautiful and unexpected. In particular, dark purple is a lovely color for a dress. Purple is an excellent base color that is easy to match and looks wonderful with so many other colors – both muted and bright. And dark purple is just as slimming as black.

Wait, you forgot that gorgeous (and affordable!) wine-colored Karen Kane Cascade Wrap dress that you featured a few weeks ago! I ordered it, and it is LOVELY!!!! Such soft fabric with a gorgeous drape. I ended up returning the wine color because I realized it’s very similar to a Ralph Lauren dress that I already had, but I asked for an exchange to the brown one and can’t wait for it to come!
Hi Rena – great idea! Here’s a list of purple & burgundy dresses that have already been featured on Commandress:

Thanks for the great feedback on the Karen Kane dress too!

Ha – love it! I played a little game where I picked my favorites before looking at the prices, and for once I came in low – picked the Velvet wrap and the Tahari dress!
Good one, J Law
Wow J Law! Why didn’t I think of that?
Etro prints are so pretty. I have a beloved scarf that I bought years ago, and I’m looking forward to wearing it again this fall.
