Commandress Color Week Fall 2012 – Six Purple Dresses to Wear to Work

Commandress Color Week features work-appropriate clothes and accessories in Fall 2012′s most gorgeous colors, including dark purple, dark green, peacock blue and burgundy.

I love all shades of purple: lilac, lavender, violet, dark plum, and everything in between. This fall is a bonanza for fans of dark purple – including violet and dark plum.

Once upon a time, sumptuary laws limited the wearing of purple to royalty. We all can (and should!) wear purple now, but it remains a symbol of luxury.

Dark purple is a wonderful alternative to black, brown, and navy because it is rich, beautiful and unexpected. In particular, dark purple is a lovely color for a dress. Purple is an excellent base color that is easy to match and looks wonderful with so many other colors – both muted and bright. And dark purple is just as slimming as black.

Here are six of my favorite purple dresses this fall!

  1. Wait, you forgot that gorgeous (and affordable!) wine-colored Karen Kane Cascade Wrap dress that you featured a few weeks ago! I ordered it, and it is LOVELY!!!! Such soft fabric with a gorgeous drape. I ended up returning the wine color because I realized it’s very similar to a Ralph Lauren dress that I already had, but I asked for an exchange to the brown one and can’t wait for it to come!

  2. More like, “Feel like a Commandress. Wear a purple dress.” :)

  3. Etro prints are so pretty. I have a beloved scarf that I bought years ago, and I’m looking forward to wearing it again this fall.
