Something that you’ll love to wear when you’re not in the office.
Two of the dresses are for me and two are for a friend – we each ordered a second size just in case. It felt very indulgent to receive a box full of dresses (even though two of the dresses will be returned promptly so that someone else can enjoy them).
Verdict: each of us loves our new Lela Rose Dress! The dress has a vintage feel that is charming and romantic – but neither retro nor costumey.
The deep purple watercolor print is true to the pictures and very beautiful. The quality of the silk/cotton fabric and the lining is great – the dress feels good on. The twisted surplice neckline is a beautiful detail that helps customize the dress’ fit. I had wondered if I was going to like the dress’ skirt – which is very full and includes a high-low hem with net underlay – but once I got the dress on with heels I loved it! It looks and feels so elegant. I like the black belt that comes with the dress, but I may look for a similar belt in a different color to add more interest – perhaps gunmetal. The dress runs slightly small, but I’m comfortable calling the fit true to size. The dress is also machine washable.
Given my excitement and my rave review, I’m genuinely surprised to report that the Lela Ross Dress is still available from both Neiman Marcus and Target in all sizes. I expected customers to snap this dress up (more on that below). Perhaps other people shopping the Neiman Marcus + Target Collection weren’t as thrilled as me by the chance to buy a Lela Rose dress at a price I could afford. (The sophisticated and gorgeous dresses in the Lela Rose Collection are Made in the USA by hand and typically cost $1,000 or more.)
Here are a couple of my favorite floral dresses from Lela Roses’s recent collections. The first dress makes me swoon:
A bit of logistics: Having survived the in-store frenzy of Liberty of London for Target and Missoni for Target, I decided that placing an on-line order in the wee hours was more appealing than joining the crowds. Although Missoni for Target crashed Target’s website, I expected that this time Target (and Neiman Marcus) would be fully prepared to handle the surge of activity. They were! I stayed up to place my order in the early, early morning hours of December 1 when the Collection first went live on the Target and Neiman Marcus websites. Success!
Update: my 12/14/12 post gives suggestions for shoes to pair with this lovely dress. You can check it out by clicking here.
